Why have we choose cork? And why it was the best idea?

One of the most important things for us as an electric boats producer is eco-friendliness. We care about the environment and with our actions we want to create more sustainable future.

That is why we choose cork – natural, highly sustainable and eco-friendly material that comes from the bark of cork oak trees (Quercus suber). These trees are primarily found in Mediterranean countries like Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Tunisia.

From where cork came?

The cork bark is harvested by hand, every nine to fourteen years. The outer layer of the bark is stripped away and the harvesting process proceeds without harming the tree, which means that the oak can continue to grow and absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The production of cork products is relatively low-impact, as it requires minimal processing and transportation. The production of cork flooring, for example, generates fewer emissions compared to other flooring materials like carpet or hardwood.

Cork can be recycled or reused, making it a more environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic materials and is biodegradable, meaning that it will break down over time and does not contribute to landfills or pollution.

The advantages of cork.

Cork is used in a wide range of products, including wine bottle stoppers, flooring, wall tiles, insulation, and fashion accessories. In this article, we'll explore some of the key advantage of using cork in marine applications.

Cork is an extremely buoyant material, which makes it an ideal choice for use in boat building and other marine applications. It can be also used to create flotation devices that are much lighter and more effective than traditional flotation materials like styrofoam. Moreover thanks to its high durability, cork can withstand the harsh marine environment. It is resistant to water, moisture, salt, and also resistant to UV radiation, which means it won't degrade or break down over time when exposed to sunlight.

Another advantage of using cork is its sound insulation properties, which means it can be used to reduce noise and vibration in boats and other marine vessels. This can provide a more comfortable and peaceful experience on board and can also help protect the hearing of those on board.

Cork is a non-slip material that provides excellent grip, even when wet. This makes it an ideal choice for use in boat decking and other areas where slip-resistance is important.

Finally, cork requires minimal maintenance, making it a cost-effective choice for marine applications. It is resistant to mold and mildew, and can be easily cleaned with soap and water.

Due to above properties, in our boats we decided on cork flooring, which perfectly matched the idea of classic, sustainble retro.

But we prepared also something for cork lovers! For special request we can provide cork decking, even with personalized patterns.

Everything is possible thanks to our reliable provider, Yachtcork, who, like us, cares about creating ecological awareness.
